The atelier

A piece that exists nowhere else.

An engagement ring, a pendant from a photograph, an engraved signet, a family piece remade exactly. The first appointment costs nothing and commits you to nothing.

Technical sketch of a ring, to scale

How it unfolds

Five stages, and you approve every one.

Nothing is cast before you have seen, held and approved it. A bespoke piece should never hold a surprise.

  1. 01

    The appointment

One hour, in store or by video. We talk budget before we talk stones — that is what frames everything else.

    Day 1

  2. 02

    The sketch

Two or three proposals drawn by hand, to scale, on tracing paper.

    Day 3 to 7

  3. 03

    The wax

A wax or resin model, in your size, that you wear to judge the volume.

    Week 2

  4. 04

    The casting

Gold cast, mounting cleaned and adjusted. You approve the stone before setting.

    Week 4

  5. 05

    The setting

A single setter, from the first bead to the final polish. Then the appraisal certificate.

    Week 6 to 10

Questions

What we are asked most.

Can I supply my own stone?

Yes. We check it under a loupe and refractometer before accepting — not out of suspicion, but because the mounting is drawn from the stone's real dimensions.

What happens to an old piece I have melted down?

It is weighed and assayed in front of you, then its value is deducted from the quote at the day's rate. If you would rather keep it, we return it untouched.

Can the quote change along the way?

Labour is fixed as soon as the sketch is approved. Only the gold price can move the material cost, and we tell you before casting.

And if I do not like the result?

You approve the sketch, then the wax, then the stone. At each stage you can stop, and you pay only for the work already done.

Do you work remotely?

Yes, anywhere in Canada. The ring sizer is sent free, sketches and progress photos arrive by email, and the piece travels insured.
